uncarved salutes Pete Murdertone!

Alright, Pete has been putting great stuff in the comments boxes for ages and even sent me a great CD of stuff a while back. And I still haven’t bigged him up properly on here! Time to make amends…

First up, a great interview with Russ D of The Disciples. Nice and in depth about his musical progression from the early days onwards – some interesting stuff for fans and people who make music alike, I would say.

Secondly you absolutely have to check Pete’s Murder Tone Productions, which are available for streaming or download on the versionist site. This tune features the vocals of none other than Mikey Murka, ex of Unity Sound and featured on the Honest Jon’s “Watch How the People Dancing” compilation.

Coming up, part two of the Russ D interview and no doubt more tunes.

One to watch, you heard it here… belatedly!

steppin’ outta babylon

Most mornings I walk past this window display, which is the crowning glory of a pipe and smoking shop. It’s weird on several levels – the main one being that the shop is located in The City of London. In fact it’s just across the street from the Bank of England and stock exchange.

It’s also part of my continuing fascination with the commercial use of rasta imagery (see also the post on Dior’s rasta handbags). I mean, clearly it’s in the window because this adds interest or sales on some level, yeah? And the market for the shop is obviously people who work in the city, who are not known for their devotion to Haile Selassie or indeed black liberation.

It’s certainly a step on from Che t-shirts, but of course everything “radical” can and will be sold back to us, so no surprises there.

Everyone is, as the man says, riding the rasta bandwagon…

roddy inna dubwise smoddy!

David Rodigan played the new Congo Natty tune on his Kiss FM show on Sunday night. Prince Lincoln from the Royal Rasses features. I was quite surprised to hear Roddy playing jungle. He is someone it is impossible to over-rate, in my book and it’s symptom of what wrong with the world that Kiss have shoved him into a Sunday 11pm-1:00am slot.
